My take on the 360 and PS3 demo of Dragon's Dogma? And UN fortunate it'd not good sorry Capcom but remember it's MY opinion and it may not reflect yours. But it's very honest and truthful.
Now before I get on to my preview you need to know a few things 1. My TV is set to play 1080i HDMI but both played in 720p I used the same setting for picture, sound etc.. 2. I realize that these are older versions of the demo. 3. I have OCD and why I mentioning this, it's because of my OCD I will notice things like picture quality sound etc...
Now onto my preview I will break it down by categories and then such as graphics, sound, control and then give my final thoughts?
One last thing this fan-boyish but I am not one and never will be one I am gamer and I play games NOT systems and I also swore I would never write on of these stupid VS articles BUT gamers have been asking, begging on the Dragon's Dogma Facebook page so here goes.
GRAPHICS:
I have to say that I was disappointed the colors looked washed out they looked less vibrant versus the PS3 version and the lighting didn't look as good or as detailed on the PS3 version. It looked like someone had turned down the sharpness setting on the graphics very much you would do with a TV it might have been "smooth" but it looked awful. PS3 graphics were more "grainy" but looked more detailed and realistic.
I noticed more glitches with the 360 version as well I didn't notice and screen tearing or pop ups? And yes I know what those mean.
Winner: PS3
Sound: I would say that they were both equal on the sound level, I didn't notice any "hick-ups" in the dialog so this is a Tie.
TIE PS3&360
Control: With the 360 version I noticed it was a little more difficult to grab on to the Griffin I was aiming for the back but kept getting the tail instead. But I also it was easier to navigate the control scheme when it can to firing you bow while playing as a Strider plus it was easier to dodge on the 360 vs. the Ps3 But instead of climbing the Griffin I attacked from the ground instead. But with 360 version I didn't run into picking up the wrong pawn like I did with the Ps3.
Winner: Ps3
Overall I have to go with Ps3 version and feel free to disagree with this post I just feel that with the lighting, and graphics especially IF that something you really care about I personally don't but some do.
Of course IF you only have one system then your choice is made for you already.
Now here are those little "touches" I was talking about? For example that fact you can interact with enemies, npc's is awesome I can pick one of my pawns throw them for example and they get up they dust themselves off.
I love the fact your going to auto level up and here is why I have played RPg's in the past were you haver to decide where to put you exp points in and no matter what you always put them in the wrong place now I you still get to pick your skills and I would imagine that they are useful?
I like games that include mini-maps, games that don't include the for me are turn-off for me cause you have to pause the game. And speaking of pauses I still love games you can pause the action unlike those that are in real time. And I personally think having an element of survival horror in my RPG is not a bad thing. And I like the fact when you fight a boss it's important to target specific body parts,weakness,etc.. OF course let's not forget your pawns or A.I. companions are actually smart and they just don't stand there and do nothing.
To me it feels like an RPG I have been waiting to play for 30 some years? Which is about damn time in my opinion.
